Egg freezing is an option for preserving fertility in women for both medical reasons (going on to cancer treatment and so wish to preserve their fertility) or for women who for other reasons ( those who are getting older and have no partner, but do not wish to experience the drop off in fertility due to advancing age) have to defer conception

It involves the same procedure as IVF but instead of fertilising the eggs, mature eggs are frozen with a process called vitrification.

Success of freezing

The success of egg freezing is based on the number and quality of the eggs retrieved and that in turn is heavily dependent on the woman's age. Unfortunately for most women the successful use of these eggs, which will require ICSI cannot be guaranteed and for those who require this option and do not have a partner, ideally the younger the better.
